We at Kumbaya are developing reliable and affordable access to renewable energy, clean cooking, quality basic education, healthcare services, and safe drinking water to off-grid communities.

Over 600 million people in Africa do not have access to electricity. For lighting, their only choice is to rely on toxic kerosene, paraffin, or candles. The billions being spent on improvements to extend the electricity grid doesn’t make a difference to 91% of Africa’s rural population. Kerosene can be a huge expense for off-grid households, and its dim lighting is hazardous because of its negative health impacts and the constant threat of fire.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 7 million people die prematurely each year due to inhaling unhealthy airborne particles, which makes indoor cooking fires the biggest culprit for these deaths.
